A recent Globe and Mail article points to the changes needed in education, as toddlers become increasingly media and tech savvy.
It’s estimated that mobile users worldwide will download 70 billion apps in 2013. More than 10 per cent of all tablet apps are dedicated toward education and learning, with many aimed at preschoolers.
The best of these help foster concept formulation, pattern and idea organization and encourage responsive problem-solving. In short, they educate, and at best, entertain as well. What parents should be wary of are games and applications that involve little or no interactivity.
As these children grow with technology and the choice and interaction it affords, so too must the education system. Tablet technology is giving our children a marvelous opportunity. Now is the time for the rest of us to recognize and seize it.
Check our our award-winning Tiga Talk app for an example of how we’re developing interactive mobile apps for kids in a way that educates and entertains. And stay tuned for the launch of our our next interactive educational and entertaining app for kids, ABC What Will I Be?
